Adding port injections and the ReFlex™ controller to your car is the next level in gains after other initial mods. When going with the port injection and the ReFlex™, most people will have already upgraded their downpipe, exhaust, low pressure fuel pump. and added flex fuel capability.
Most modern BMWs™ after 2020 have an Engine Control Unit (ECU) that needs to be unlocked. BMWs™ and Supras™ 2020 and later will need special services to be unlocked. If you’re ready to add ReFlex™ to your car, this is likely already done, but it’s worth mentioning just in case.
Every car running ReFlex™ will need to be tuned by a trusted tuner. It’s best to have a tuner lined up before jumping into this project. In addition to the tuner, it may be necessary to choose between tuning software and licenses such as EcuTek™, MHD™, or Bootmod3™.
Flex fuel systems allow the engine to run on a blend of gasoline and ethanol (E85), providing the flexibility to use different fuel mixtures. E85 has a higher octane level and is an easy way to increase hp quickly. It’s not uncommon to see a 50-60 hp increase when running 60% E85. Usually flex fuel is added before port injection, but it can be done at the same time.
Port injection adds a secondary fuel source on the intake side of the engine once the direct injection maxes out. The two main options are either plate style port injection or upgrading the intake manifold completely.
(See Selecting a Port Injection System: Plate vs Manifold Style for more information.)
Most ReFlex™ additions will require adding a low-pressure sensor. It will be necessary to connect the fuel pressure sensor and port injection fuel rail into the low-pressure fuel line.
Use the TMS Harness to connect the ReFlex™ to the port injection, flex fuel, and sensors.
After the installation, work with your tuner to thoroughly test the Motiv ReFlex™ Plus controller and port injection kit to ensure proper functionality and performance. Perform a series of tests, including dyno testing and on-road driving, to evaluate the changes and verify that everything is functioning as intended.
